The Myrtle Avenue District Management Association maintains an ongoing dialog with the commander of the 104th Precinct as well as Community Affairs, Crime Prevention, Anti-Crime, and all other units when the need arises.  This has resulted in increased coverage of the Myrtle Avenue BID by Community Policing Unit (CPU) officers and newly dedicated foot patrols.  The DMA may hold special meetings to address issues and problems when necessary.    Monitoring crime patterns and service delivery continues to be a primary priority of the Myrtle Avenue District Management Association.  The DMA further maintains an ongoing dialog with the District Manager of Community Board #5 and has a relationship with Community Board # 4 in Brooklyn (Bushwick) since the Myrtle Avenue BID ends at the Brooklyn border.

Security Gate Replacement

A new city ordinance stipulates that any merchant and/or property owner looking to install new security gates on their storefront/building must replace old solid roll-down gates with open link (mesh) type security gates.

Open link gates and inside lighting encourage shoppers to stroll on the avenue and view store displays after hours. They also allow the New York City Police Department, Fire Department, etc. to see inside the store should a problem exist. Open link gates reflect a more pleasant and safe environment. This change becomes mandatory in 2025.
