The Myrtle Avenue BID worked with New York City Department of Transportation Division of Planning and Sustainability and the New York City Dept. of Design & Construction in developing an enhanced public space at 71st Avenue Plaza. The 71st Avenue Plaza has reclaimed the underutilized slip road between Stephen Street and Myrtle Avenue to improve safety, maintain operations for adjacent businesses, and provide 3,000 square feet of enhanced public open space for residents and shoppers.
The Open Restaurants Plaza Program has allowed plaza restaurants to set out tables & chairs for strollers & shoppers to enjoy outdoor dining.
The Myrtle Avenue BID plans to expand the activities currently held at the triangle during the Summer, Fall Street Festival and Christmas activities to possibly include farmers & craft markets, music, children’s events, temporary art installations, and other holiday events.
